1. How long does it take?
Modeling time working from life is at least 8 hours or one day. Once the portrait is approved by the client, casting to bronze may take up to 3-4 months. Casting to plaster may take 4-6 weeks. Please refer to 'Commissioning a Portrait' for more details. (top)

2. How much does it cost and how do I pay?
To commission a cast bronze portrait or memorial portrait urn the cost is $5,000.00 US. To commission a plaster cast portrait the cost is $2000.00 US. For all other commissioned works, fees are by arrangement with the artist and HOLTKAMP Fine Art Bronze. Please refer to 'Commissioning a Portrait' for detailed pricing. (top)

3. Is there a refund if you are not satisfied?
The prescribed fee for innating the commission for a portrait is 30% to create a likeness in clay or plasticine. Because of the skill and the amount of work involved, this fee is not refundable. Every effort is applied to accommodate the client and if I am not able to satisfy the client, the commission goes no further. Once the portrait is approved, there should be no problem in satisfying the client. Please refer to Contract or 'Commissioning a Portrait' for more details. (top)

4. How do you work?
In creating a true likeness, I insist on working from life for many reasons. To do this, I will travel. Only if absolutely necessary, will I work from photos. I usually work in either clay or plasticine over a supporting armature. Please refer to 'Commissioning a Portrait' for more details. (top)

5. What materials will you make a sculpture from?
Bronze and plaster. Plasticine is not a permanent medium and is only used as a modeling material to create the work. Please refer to 'Commissioning a Portrait' for more details. (top)

6. Will I be informed of the progress of the work?
Yes. A close working relationship is developed with the artist and the client and the client is kept informed as to the progress of the commission. Please refer to 'Commissioning a Portrait' for more details. (top)

7. Who is responsible for shipping costs and how is the work shipped?
The client is responsible for the shipping costs. The most appropriate means of shipping is determined in consultation with the client. (top)

8. Do you do additional castings?
Yes. Additional castings of bronze or plaster are available upon request and are considerately less than the original work. (top)

9. Are the stone or wood bases included in the cost?
No. I will supply the appropriate base requested by the client but the additional cost is the responsibility of the client. (top)

10. If I supply photos, will they be returned to me?
The artist will return the photos to the client upon completion of the commission. (top)

11. What kind of photos are required and how do I forward them to you?
I require three 8x10 good quality photos, one frontal or straight on, one right side profile and one left side profile. I will not use photos in which the subject is smiling. Photos can be forwarded by email or posted by mail. Please refer to 'Commissioning a Portrait' for more details about photos. (top)

12. Who owns the copyright to the work?
For commissioned or memorial portrait urn, the copyright to the work remains with the client, unless otherwise agreed to. The artist with permission granted by the client may use the images of the sitter’s likeness. For all other works, the copyright remains with the artist. (top)

13. Is there a guarantee of the work?
HOLTKAMP Fine Art Bronze offers quality bronze workmanship backed by a signed Certificate of Authenticity (top)
